The anticipated removal of the Charles Mill Dam at the corner of Charles and Washington began today with the removal of the brass plaques by the Marion Utility Department.
The current dam was built as a Works Progress Administration Project, a relief program of the Franklin Roosevelt New Deal Federal effort to provide work for the millions of unemployed workers during the Great Depression of 1929- 37. The dedicatory plaques will be placed at the Marion Public Library History Center.
Work begins.
